Appalachia Service Project is a not-for-profit organization spread throughout the Appalachian Mountains. Each year, they take in volunteers and house them within communities that need outside help. ASP takes in applications from community members in dire need of help with their homes. ASP assigns roughly 5-7 person teams for a week at a time, and advises them on completing construction projects.
In my 3 year experience having had gone, I was able to work on two flooring projects, and a porch and wheel chair ramp project. Being apart of ASP is certainly an eye opening experience, and I absolutely hope to get back down there again, or help out financially as I can. Look at their website here.
